The essay, substantially revised, was included as Chapter
VII of the unfinished novel Gaston de Latour in
1896, the year after Pater's death.

section will eventually contain essays that Pater published
in the Westminster Review and The Fortnightly,
among other journals. Most of the essays, though
not all, appear later in his books and collected works.
